Sessions will be held in the Cree Room.

The 2003 Leadership Forum is comprised of two separate sessions to take place on Sunday, June 15 and on Monday, June 16. On Sunday, the topic is Challenges in Creating a Culture of Stewardship in your Foundation. On Monday, the day will be spent exploring the range of different Funding Sources for Operations in an Era of Designated Gifts. The Forum is limited to 36 senior level health care development professionals with at least 10 years experience in fundraising with five years at the executive level.

If you meet these criteria, please participate on both days or, you can register for only one day. Registration is the same as the full conference rate for two days or, you can register for a single day. It would be essential for you to participate in each full day’s session. The schedule does allow for attendance at plenary sessions, roundtables, breaks and meals.

Facilitators for the break out sessions will be Tennys Hanson, Pearl Veenema and Cathy Chrones.

Dean: Tennys J. M. Hanson

As President and Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation and Vice President and Chief Development Officer of University Health Network (UHN), Tennys Hanson is leading one of the largest fundraising initiatives undertaken by any Canadian health care institution.

Ms. Hanson’s career achievements include a five-year post as University Campaign Director and Vice-President at University of Toronto Foundation. At Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation of Toronto, Ms. Hanson was Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for five years, followed by a year as Acting President.

Highlights of Ms. Hanson’s community involvement include chairing the Education Policy Committee at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and serving as President at both the Mississauga Symphony and the Mississauga Board of Trade. She has been a Governor at Sheridan College, and Director of the University of Toronto Alumni Association, Junior Achievement of Peel, and Mississauga Hospital among many community organizations. Ms. Hanson is an Honourary Life Member of the Mississauga Board of Trade. University of Toronto has awarded her with the Governor General’s Silver Medal and the Arbour Award.


Challenges in Creating a Culture of Stewardship in Your Foundation
Sunday, June 15

1:30 to 2:50 p.m.
3:40 to 5:00 p.m.

In the morning, Tennys J.M. Hanson will provide an overview of the elements for a stewardship program. Following, she will facilitate a panel discussion comprised of development professionals at the executive and staff levels who will share their perspectives on creating a culture of stewardship. From 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. the participants will break into small groups to debate the concepts heard and to bring recommendations for the third session that will be in plenary form.

The day will conclude with participants agreeing on a policy and procedure outline for any Canadian health care foundation and the core elements for an AHP Journal article.

Funding Sources for Foundation Operations in an Era of Designated Gifts
Monday, June 16

10:35 to 11:50 a.m.
1:40 to 2:50 p.m.

Join a cross Canada panel to hear the varying sources of funding available and approved by boards to fund operations. These sources include among others, allocation of some unrestricted funds, levies and other revenue generating opportunities. The Dean will be the facilitator for the session. Participants in the break out session will address the feasibility and pros and cons of the funding sources.

The day will conclude with a consensus position(s) on funding sources that will be the basis for a white paper appropriate to share with local internal and external stakeholders.
