Stephen Lewis will speak at the Opening Plenary Session on Monday, May 16. Stephen Lewis, the UN's Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, is one of Canada's most influential commentators on social affairs, international development and human rights. He has held a variety of senior roles with international bodies. We can all aspire to Mr. Lewis' commitment to public service. He holds 20 honorary degrees from Canadian universities, and has been appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada, and Maclean's magazine's inaugural "Canadian of the Year." Charles and Margaret Juravinski will be the luncheon speaker on Tuesday May 17. The son of Ukrainian immigrants, Charles Juravinski was born in 1929 in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. Hard times during the height of the Depression forced the family east in search of work. In 1956, Charles married Margaret and together they carved out a life that has culminated in $24 million in gifts to date in support of health care in Hamilton, Ontario. Charles and Margaret Juravinski will share the story of their incredible journey from poverty to the forefront of Canadian health care philanthropy. |
