Tuesday May 17, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Building an Accountable Philanthropic Culture in the Healthcare System Facilitator: Nicholas Offord, President, The Offord Group, Inc. This year’s leadership forum will once again ask leaders within the healthcare fundraising sector challenging questions about the future of Hospital fundraising in Canada. This year however, we are also going to ask institutional leaders to join the forum: Presidents of Hospitals and Vice Presidents who will one day lead hospitals or who have a very direct involvement with the development function. Why the change? More and more the ability of the fundraising team is dependent upon its relationship with institutions undergoing a quantum change in system organization and accountability, which have broad implications for the relationship with communities and donors. Working in a discussion-based forum with breakout groups, we will explore five specific topic areas, introduced by a topic leader. Governance and Leadership Topic Leader: Ron Fairchild, CFRE President, DVA Navion Will the move regional decision making erode the voice of communities or will there be a shift in power to Foundations, which represent communities and donors in Hospital priority setting and planning? How do we ensure collaboration and community support for projects? Accountability Topic Leader: Joseph Mapa President and CEO, Mount Sinai Hospital More and more hospitals are being forced defend and justify every dollar to boards, regional health authorities and government. The discipline around accountability, balance scorecards and other management tools are becoming part of the new landscape. What are these tools and should the development function be prepared to stand similar scrutiny of operations and performance. What are the benchmarks? How will we be judged? Planning and Priority Setting Topic Leader: Ron Dumouchelle President, Vancouver General Hospital Foundation To what extent are hospitals and regional health authorities prepared to work with Foundations in planning and priorities? Are there good mechanisms that can ease tension during shifting priorities? How can hospitals effectively manage donor initiated programs and projects? Donor and Community Relations Topic Leader: Pearl Veenema, FAHP
